Introduction...
Dave developed The Urban Music Project whilst working in Education. (See more about Dave's experience in education here: Education Consultancy)
The Urban Music Project is a course designed to have a positive impact and influence on students from an urban background, with a view to help them better engage in education and learning.
During the course students explore topics such as, the importance of language and how it is used to both positive and negative outcomes, the media and it’s relationship with society’s notorious role models and it also looks at leading music artists; their music and the influence it has on young people today.
Throughout the course students reflect upon their own image. Addressing questions such as; Are students mirror imaging their favourite urban artist? Is this image seen visually at school in the classroom, at home or socially? Or is it just a part of their identity?
The course consists of a variety of exercises including; listening, visual, research, writing and also music & video production.
The course also aims to build positive self-esteem as students are encouraged and have the opportunity to express their creative talents in the form of producing a musical composition based on the ‘Importance of Education’.
On completion of the project students will receive a CD and/or DVD of their recorded compositions along with a certificate of attendance and achievement.
